Exadata Architecture

Database Machine provides a resilient, high-performance platform for clustered and non-clustered implementations of Oracle Database. The underlying architecture that underpins Database Machine is the same core architecture that underpins Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) software.

The Database Machine architecture consists of the following

1. ASM:

Database Machine provides intelligent, high-performance shared storage for single instance implementations of Oracle Database and RAC implementations using Exadata Storage Server technology. The storage provided by Exadata Storage Server can be used for Oracle Database by using Oracle Database's Automatic Storage Management (ASM) feature, which adds recovery capabilities to Exadata Database Machine storage by providing a mirroring solution. ASM adds recovery capabilities to Exadata Database Machine storage by providing a mirroring scheme that can be used to maintain redundant copies of data on separate Exadata Storage Servers. This prevents data loss in the event of a storage server failure. Regular protection ensures that two copies of data are maintained on separate Exadata Storage Servers, while high-level protection maintains three copies of data on three separate Exadata Storage Servers.

2. storage network:

Database Machine includes a storage network based on InfiniBand technology. This network provides high-bandwidth, low-latency access to the Exadata Storage Server. Fault tolerance is built into the network architecture through the use of multiple redundant network switches and network interface bonding.

3. Oracle RAC:

The database servers in Database Machine are designed to be powerful and well-balanced servers so that there are no bottlenecks within the server architecture. They are equipped with all the components required for Oracle RAC, making it easy for customers to easily deploy Oracle RAC in a single Database Machine, and when processing demands exceed the capacity of a single Database Machine, customers can connect multiple Database Machines together to create a single unified server cluster. 4. RAC Interconnection Network:

The high bandwidth and low latency characteristics of InfiniBand are best suited for cluster interconnection requirements. Therefore, Database Machine is also configured by default to use the InfiniBand storage network as the cluster interconnect.
